Each original design by Alice Ann Dobbin is created to become an heirloom, using semi-precious stones, and the highest quality silver or pewter. Designs may be adapted with gold instead of silver. Inspired by a collection of vintage jewelry she inherited from her aunt, Dobbin embarked on a new endeavor. . wearable art. She was moved to create affordable pieces which could become tomorrow's keepsakes. Each unique creation is hand-made by the artist using semi-precious gems, aquamarine, garnet, quartz and others, that will only increase in value through the years. These raw materials are becoming harder to obtain. Most of the silver used in her jewelry is from the primitive Karen Tribe of Thailand. Known as Hill Tribe Silver, it is a higher quality than sterling. While sterling is 92.5% pure, Hill Tribe silver is 99.9% pure. They cannot work on anything less than soft, pure silver because their tools are made from old car parts. Some of their bead and pendant designs are also vermeiled, using a layer of 18-karat and two layers of 24-karat gold. Dobbin's designs often use inspirations from nature: butterflies, shells, flowers, leaves. They range from whimsical to formal to basic office wear. Custom pieces can be created for weddings, birthdays and special occasions.
