Jose Candia

Back

Jose Candia was born in Argentina and is a world-traveler.  He studied painting and design in his native city of Tandil.  In the early seventies, he pursued a career in engineering, receiving a degree in surveying.   By the end of the decade, he was exhibiting his works in North America and devoting full time to his art.

Candia's works are widely acclaimed on an international level.  He depicts the flavour of a bygone French or Tuscan epoch with acute detail:  colorful facades, nostalgic affiches on old walls or that old cobblestone passage to explore.  In his paintings, he presents a broad thematic versatility brought to life in lively colors, lights and shadows.

His most recent paintings are the result of a visit to New Orleans in the summer of 2003.  He portrays the French Quarter with rich colors and exquisite attention to architectural detail and captures the mood of this unique city.
